for all you lovely people who said, 'your kids look FINE'

Let's give this some context: today I am wearing a pink turtleneck, cropped khakis, and green suede driving loafers. WHICH I PICKED OUT MYSELF. At the grocery, I ran into a very stylish friend of my mother-in-law's, who said, 'Don't you look nice!'

Charlie, on the other hand, is wearing THIS (which he picked out himself):

How is it possible that people think I dress him? HOW?

But look at that sweet little face!

Quite frankly, I think HE could be wearing the pink turtleneck, cropped khakis, and green driving shoes and he'd get away with it.

Holly, he would TOTALLY be down with that. Particularly the shoes.

And he is showing you all how TALL his coffee cake has made him. Because apparently coffee cake makes you tall. Did you know that?

Note to self--eat more coffee cake--will be taller (and appear more slender...)

Don't worry about little Charlie. I am always giggling at kids who have very original get-ups when I go to the store--my daughter included. I never have any doubt they the kids chose their own clothes--I think they are utterly adorable.

Embrace the unique outfits now. The day WILL come when it is all about name brands and humiliation over the things YOU wear. I love the outfit, by the way!

Kids can pull it off because they are well, kids. And he's so adorable who really cares what he has on. He's up, he's dressed, and he's out of there. It could always be worse. Wait till the teen years. I have a 17 year old daughter. You should see what SHE leaves the house in.

And I saw your green driving shoes last night and they were adorable too!

Aren't those shoes THE BEST? I love them more than my children, at this particular moment.

His arms are at his sides for showing how coffee cake makes you "tall". You sure he doesn't mean "wide"? Which is certainly what it does for me... Crusty brown sugar topping, yummmm.

He's totally into the layered look, isn't he?

He looks like me after I take off my "outside" clothes and put on my "inside" clothes.

I call it "pants takin' off time".
