clearly, I've been a VERY good girl
Yesterday morning I had an e-mail from the fabulous women at Mommy Bloggers, soliciting Valentine's posts about LOVE. And today I'm wondering if it would be wierd to write about how much I love my new iBook.
Yes! I finally got my computer! Merry Christmas to me!
I'm at the Full Circle Bookstore right now, lounging in the cafe and soaking up their free WiFi and revelling in being out of my house. And so far, I haven't licked the iBook once! So you should all be proud of me.
I would like to say that I had pretty much the usual weekend, but I'm not sure that's a true statement. First of all, there's the whole computer thing, which has Changed My Life (seriously, you all, this is the best thing to ever happen to me). Then there's the accompanying wireless connection, which means that I can sit ANYWHERE in our house and work, which means that in the late afternoon when my charming children have misplaced all their charm and are playing Knock Me Down (yes, a real game! that consists of knocking each other down! and typically includes both crying and the phrase 'I'm telling!') I can be in the room with them, keeping the peace and reading my e-mail all at once! Think how much I have saved us in insurance premiums by ending all play that may result in a trip to the ER!
I also feel like my Hip Factor has been raised, both by the acquisition of the very very pretty iBook but also by this skirt which I picked up during a trip to the grocery on Saturday (what? there's not an Ann Taylor on YOUR way to the grocery?). I had a gift card from Christmas (thank you, Mom!) and after I tried on about ten pairs of very practical khakis and jeans, all of which had some wierd thing going on in the butt area that I can't even begin to explain (they were both baggy AND too tight! all at once! in every possible size!), I went with the cool denim skirt. It seems both useful and fun (I can wear it with heels! or flip flops! or my fabulous espadrilles!) and since our weather had been downright spring-like lately, I thought I would CERTAINLY be able to wear it this week.
And thus I am to blame for the cold front that set in last night which will end in a high of 32 on Saturday. Sorry!
The weekend wasn't ALL about shopping, though--on Saturday night we had a spontaneous dinner with our friends Miles and Molly, which was fabulous not only because we love them and Molly made delicious enchilladas but because Henry and Charlie love their house and their kids more than they love us, and so in the ENTIRE time we were there we only saw the children maybe twice. It was perfect.
Before dinner, the boys played an elaborate game of Put Out the Fire, which involved lots of running upstairs and yelling, 'A fire! A fire!' and then running back down to the kitchen to inform the adults that there was a fire! upstairs! And Henry would add, just in case we were worried, 'It's okay, Uncle Miles, it's just a PRETEND fire.' Because you never know.
After dinner, the boys all watched Swiss Family Robinson. When Henry expressed some hesitation about the movie, Molly's seven-year-old son summarized the plot this way: 'They get to the island and then all the COOL stuff happens.' Apparently that was good for Henry, as we never heard a peep from the boys after that.
Last night there were tantrums and potty accidents and an incident with Henry's nightlight (at 3:30 am!) that resulted in me reopening a nasty slice on my finger and bleeding all the hell over the place. But none of it can dim my happiness about my computer and my wireless internet connection (Molly! GET A ROUTER! NOW!).
And now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to write about how much I love my iBook. And maybe even lick it, just a little, on the side. Once.

Don't lick it! You will have a hard time cleaning that shiny white interior if you've accidentally been eating blue popsicles that have turned your tongue blue or something! Much safer just to pat it, and squeeze it, and buy it some lunch. It'll know you love it. I sing to mine. And purr.
Well I am beside myself with jealousy. I would look terrible in the Anne Taylor skirt, or any skirt that ends anywhere above the ankle. Plus today I am very very miserable at my job. So I am jealous of you, your SAH lifestyle that allows for lattes (if I stayed home, I'd have to give up my truck! Which changed my life!) and your iBook AND your skirt. Bleagh.
Yay for the computer!!!! It's about time!
Off to check out the new skirt. Please stop doing this to me.
BTW, bought a fab pair of kitten heels this weekend. No idea when I'll wear them--- perhaps to play in the snow or to do laundry?
Yay for the new computer! I am glad you love it. Sometimes I sleep with mine, and it's not even brand new. I can see it next to me in the bedroom, blinking its love light at me.
We just so happen to have an Ann Taylor in the same shopping center as the grocery store. Isn't that a wonderful coincidence?
Um, I might have to go buy the skirt. I think it will match the new shoes I bought because I read about 'em here. Don't worry though, I promise not to bump into you at the store wearing the same outfit.
I feel like a third grader wanting what the cool kids are wearing. I never see this fun stuff when I go shopping for some reason, and it just looks nicer when you talk about it.
I'm going to draw the line at licking my shoes though.
Damn, I want one of those. Did you get HTML for Dummies, too?
So how hard was the wireless router thing? You linked your PC with your Mac, right? Did the computer sex work out okay?
I am computer stupid. Seriously.
Oooh so happy for you and your new toy. And the divine skirt! I have too much junk in the trunk for a skirt like that - but I envy those who can wear it!
I love that skirt. I want that skirt (even though it's -13C here today). A-line skirts are so pretty and yet practical for chasing after children.
And I love, love, love those dinner parties where they have children who are slightly older and are happy to entertain your children--it seems endlessly--while you have another glass of wine. It's perfect.
lick it! just once! so many hearty congratulations on your ibook and the upcoming post and the fun with friends and the fun your kids had with their friends. it all sounds so FUN and lovely and la la la! i want some of it!!!!! send it up north, quickly! with a lick!
I was wondering if you had the iBook yet. Merry Xmas - even if it is February!
And the skirt is SO cute! Good choice.
Don't lick the iBook. Just blow kisses at it.
Congratulations!
I have a headache and must go lie down now. And hold my head.
Oh, I'm so jealous. I do love my laptop and the wi-fi is wonderful but I've got me a hankering for some Apples.
I love your description of the "game." Very funny and familiar.
Don't worry! You can also wear your skirt with thick tights and knee high boots! And a sweater!
I work at Ann Taylor and finger that skirt lustfully every day, praying that we receive it in my size soon so that I may buy it in all of its denimy glory!
(First time commenter, love this blog!)
Once you go Mac, you'll never go back! :)
I've read "Child of My Heart". It was an... interesting read. I'd like to hear what you think about it!
Your hip factor was raised! I want the iBook and the pretty skirt.
My next computer definitely will be a Mac!
Well well well. You and the 6th graders (who are all issued a computer) at our school, hanging out with your ibooks and drinking coffee in all the cool and hip coffeeshops in town. Just a teeny bit jealous I am. I am chained to a desk, and it is a sad, sad, oh so year 2000 thing. Sozzled says that her idea of heaven is sitting on the porch of her house with a beer and her wireless. I SO would NEVER get anything done. Instead of the freedom of an wireless ibook, I will look forward to the freedom of the road, and my Harley. Ahhhh, spring. Can it come too soon? Will this blasted cold end and make way for the open road?
(Psst!! Remember me? Your favorite stalker from Fayetteville?)
Congrats on the new iBook!! And the skirt! And dinner with friends! That's a hat trick in my life.
Seriously, I'm coveting the skirt. A-line, to the knee... Clinton and Stacey would be proud. I wish I could wear the oh-so-cute-wrap-around-the-ankle espadrilles, but alas, my ankles are not made for embellishment.
Cute skirt--too bad I am death in pleats!
And yay for the new computer!
Woman. Stop making me snort with laughter. It scares the cat.
"And Henry would add, just in case we were worried, 'It's okay, Uncle Miles, it's just a PRETEND fire.' Because you never know."
Lost it there. The cat thinks I'm weird. I blame you.
Cute skirt! It's been super nice my way, so if you'd like to LOAN it to me, I promise I'll give it back. Promise.
iBook, wireless, a new skirt! That essay will surely be amazing. Can't wait to read it.
Hey! I'm writing a Mommybloggers love post too. I say go with the iBook. The weirder the better, right? Mine is about Christopher Cross...
I am also in love with my wireless router. Although I'm desperately in need of a new laptop. Mine wheezes along like an old fat man and half the time, the "g" and "h" keys don't work and I have to plug in a keyboard. But beyond that, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't take it from room to room with me while the baby plays and dinner's on the stove and all that good stuff.
I get my hair cut at Balliet's Salon.. right by the Full Circle Bookstore! :)
Congrats on your new computer!
